Talks and Workshops/Lectures and Seminars

2020 Coronavirus/Trump Shitshow development:

Online seminar: The Desperate Poetic Concept of the Killing Joke; or, How to Manage Anxiety as the Walls Come Tumbling Down…

Single session digest and timely update on the original 4-part series. Hosted by Rhizome D.C.  June 25 in the Real World.

Online seminar: The Desperate Poetic Concept of the Killing Joke; or, How to Manage Anxiety When the Walls are Closing in…

Talks, discussions, and roundtable indulgences on the history and concept of the “Killing Joke.” Sprung from an in-progress poetic essay by Magus Magnus, this course functions as a multimedia creativity and catharsis workshop, with creative/therapeutic games, prompts, rituals, and cerebrations-celebrations – online party style. Let’s get through confinement, oppression, and contagion together with our free spirits intact and our inspirations unleashed. Hosted by Rhizome D.C.

4-session experience scheduled for April 9, 16, 23, and 30 occurred exclusively on the astral plane/parallel worlds.

Talks and readings on the “Canon of the Free Spirit” (first presented in the spring of 2014 at Towson University’s Geo-aesthetics Conference).

Variations on Magnus’ “Poetic Ways of Knowing” presentation (lectures and “immersive thinking events” focused on the pre-Socratics, especially Heraclitus) have been presented at the D.C. Public Library, Towson University, George Mason University, and at the Society for Ancient Greek Philosophy (SAGP) conference at Fordham University, Lincoln Center Campus.

Along with recent talks on issues in contemporary poetry at George Washington University and at Northern Virginia Community College, Magnus has guest lectured on poetry for University of Maryland University College (online), spoke on the “Poetic Sentences” panel for the 2011 Conversations and Connections Conference at Johns Hopkins University D.C. campus, and several times served as an arts grants panelist and poetry fellowship panelist for the Virginia Commission for the Arts.  Magnus has also lectured on Antonin Artaud and Carl Dreyer and The Passion of Joan of Arc at Towson University.

Magnus’ workshop for actors – The Art of the Poetic Monologue/ Technique of the Idyll – has been offered at the D.C. Public Library, The Actors’ Center in Washington D.C., Theater on the Run in Arlington, Virginia, and at Bloombars in Washington, D.C.

Readings

Magnus has given frequent poetry readings over the years for a variety of reading series in a variety of venues in Washington, D.C and Baltimore; has been a regular at the Shakemore Festival in Westminster, Maryland; and has appeared several times at various venues in Philadelphia and Brooklyn; he even made it to Buffalo and Chicago before the Great American Furniture Press Tour, as well as to Duke University’s Minor American reading series and to the Boston Poetry Marathon and BBQ at Outpost 186 (in conjunction with Boog 5) in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
